Drives

Drives have a park or natural scenic view on one or both sides of the street. Historically, drives were created for relaxing carriage drives, before motor cars existed. They can be in a park or on the edge of the city. When buildings are on one side and a park or scenic view on the other, the walkway on the park side can be treated like a park walk, with park benches and room for strolling.
Parkways are limited-access roads designed to combine easy long-distance travel with the experience of driving in the countryside or a park. In the country, parkways can open to long vistas. In more crowded areas, trees on both sides of the parkway buffer the view. Originally, parkways stopped at the city’s edge, where they met green boulevards.
